  1. Mmm, this makes me want to run to the cupboard and get out my stash of homemade granola *grin*. Actually we’ve been eating it as a midnight snack to! It’s gotta be better then eating cookies, right?! Have you ever tried walnut oil? I love to add walnuts once in a while and I saw some of the oil at the store the last time I went shopping and thought it might be nice to replace the olive oil with once in a while 🙂

    • Rachel says:

Oh, I’ve never tried walnut oil…I was actually going to ask in this post what type of oils people use and forgot. It’s always interesting to try something new!

Glad I got you craving something for a change!

  2. I’m embarrassed to admit this publicly, but I have never made my own granola. I am a lover of all things homemade, and of granola, so it’s quite silly, really. I was just thinking earlier today, actually that I need to give it a shot. I may have to give your recipe a try – especially since we just grated some fresh coconut! Thanks for sharing 🙂

    • Rachel says:

Haha, that’s kind of how I felt – I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been making it when I realized how easy it was. Ooo, that fresh coconut sounds great!

  3. angie says:

yum, I’m going to give this recipe a try for sure, thanks!

  4. Christine Walsh says:

Oh yum! I’ve made granola before, but never with maple syrup. Thanks for sharing:)

Looks great. I’ve always wanted to try granola because I love all the good things that can go into it. This looks like a great start and something I now know the little people will like when they visit! I think we know who the sixth hold-out is.

    • Rachel says:

The hold-out actually ate a bowl with me last night so he is growing. 😉 The kids will have you eaten out of granola in no time!

This looks so fabulous. I’ve been wanting to make some granola for a long time, it’s been a while. Thanks for the inspiration.

  7. Ellen says:

Love the bowl and the burnt nuts comment. 🙂 We like granola a lot – last time my 12yo son made a batch (much simpler, basic version) and everyone topped it with something different, according to their likes. I think another batch is called for – thanks for the recipe.

Please tell your husband that you will be leaving the ” How to Burn Granola” tutorial to me! This looks and sounds delicious. My favorite is the one and only granola recipe in Apples for Jam.

  9. Heidi says:

Oh, Rachel, were you peeking in my window to see my family turning up their noses at yet another slightly too crispy batch of my attempts at homemade granola?

I think that I will give your recipe a go…after I finish eating my somewhat over done current batch that is…

    🙂

  10. Rachel says:

Glad I’m not the only with a little granola-burning problem!

  11. meghann says:

Oh wow, that looks so good with the yogurt and cinnamon…

I should try putting nuts in mine, now I see your recipe. It hasn’t occurred to me because I’ve had an infant pretty much constantly for the last 2 1/2 years, but there really isn’t anything stopping me now, is there?

    Hey Rach!

I came across my Mom’s old recipe the other day and thought I want to try it someday soon! (Yes, I’m still avoiding papers)…

    Combine:
    8 cups rolled oats
    1 cup whole wheat flour
    1 cup coconut
    1 cup wheat germ
    1 cup bran
    1 cup sunflower seeds
    1 tablespoon salt

    Combine:
    1 cup oil
    1 cup honey
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/2 cup water

Add wet to dry and mix thoroughly. Put in greased pans or sheets and bake at 250 until golden and dry (about 1 hour), stirring 3 times.
